An article in Science by Prof. Agostino Migliore and collaborators reports the design of robust (opto)electronicmolecular switches. The experiments demonstrate reversible, stable and reproducible electrical switching of single molecules linked to graphene electrodes. The theoretical analysis reveals the chemical-physical underpinnings of photoinduced and temperature-dependent mechanisms for the observed switching. This work provides unambiguous evidence that molecules with suitable electronic properties and engineered contacts can be key components for future nanoelectronics. More on this may be found here.
