How has being a Chemistry graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"Is this a trick question?…:). I have degrees in chemistry and have worked as an industrial chemist for 31 years. They kind of go hand in hand. A PhD is pretty much required for industrial R&D."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Chemistry programs? 

"Be flexible in what you are willing to work and make changes over time to keep things fresh and interesting. I’m an organic chemist but five years ago I switched to Lithium chemistry and am now a world expert on industrial production of lithium raw materials. I never saw that coming but it has been very interesting."
