How has being a Chemistry graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"For me, Duke Chemistry was a springboard to medical school and beyond. The department was integral to sharpening my analytic skills and maturing my abilities to think and write scientifically. These skills were foundational to success in medical training and beyond. I continue to lean on these experiences and lessons as a surgeon scientist today. On a personal note, the chemistry department was my academic home at Trinity. The mentorships and relationships I formed with the faculty and graduate students convinced this undeclared Pratt BME to jump over to the chemistry family. I haven't looked back since."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Chemistry programs?

"Get curious and get involved! Take advantage to the countless research and fellowship opportunities in the department. Look beyond introductory and general classes. The smaller, higher level classes and labs are tremendous."
