Paloma Toledo, B.S. 1999

Division Chief for Obstetric Anesthesiology, University of Miami – Miami, Florida

1999 Major: Chemistry

How has being a Chemistry graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"I loved my chemistry major, so much do that I considered getting a PhD in chemistry instead of going to medical school. I ultimately became an anesthesiologist, so my understanding of chemistry helped me with pharmacology and pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics. I made lifelong friends at Duke and really loved my experience as a student and TA."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Chemistry programs?

"Enjoy your time at Duke! The professors are amazing and the time flies by. Get engaged in research if you can!"
