How has being a Chemistry graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"Each part of my career was made possible by my Duke Chemistry degree. In my early career, I worked for large chemical companies in R&D, product development, and technical support. I learned quickly that although I love the world of chemistry and how chemistry knowledge helps me understand the world, I wanted to make that bench knowledge have a bigger impact. I now work for a science education company, and I have the opportunity every day to help teachers inspire a love of science in their students. We live by the motto that students can't learn science without doing science, and my Duke chemistry degree helps me bring the best hands-on chemistry teaching tools to middle school, high school, and college classrooms."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Chemistry programs?

"I would encourage Duke Chemistry students to become involved in the Chemistry department! I have great memories of working in the lab prep room and working as a TA for the general chemistry labs. It was fantastic training for how a lab is managed, and it was great fun to see behind the scenes in the department."
