Michael Therien, William R. Kenan, Jr. Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, has been recognized with the 2024 Inter-American Photochemical Society Award in Photochemistry for his outstanding contributions to the field.

The Inter-American Photochemical Society (I-APS) Award in Photochemistry was established in 1988 to recognize outstanding contributions by members of the Society to the advancement of the photochemical and photophysical sciences, recognizing achievements made during the past ten years of the nominee's career.

The I-APS has been established to encourage the development of photochemistry and allied subjects throughout the Americas. Its main objectives are to promote cooperation between photochemists in universities, research centres and industry through the Americas, as well as organize and encourage student chapters and educational activities such as summer schools, workshops and symposia in photochemistry on local, regional and national levels.

Therien was presented this award at the 2024 I-APS meeting, which took place on January 3-6 2024.
