Chemistry major Ayush Jain has been named a 2024 scholar by the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program. Ayush is among 508 students awarded Goldwater Scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year. The one- and two-year scholarships go toward covering the cost of tuition, fees, books, room and board.

The Goldwater Scholars were selected on the basis of academic merit from a field of 1,353 nominated mathematics, science and engineering students nationwide. Virtually all scholars intend to obtain a Ph.D. The federally endowed scholarship program honoring the late U.S. Sen. Barry Goldwater was designed to foster and encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences and engineering.

Ayush designs machine-learning-based approaches to solve clinical medicine problems such as finding optimal drug doses, suggesting successful drug repurposing hypotheses, and to emulate clinical trials with causal inference. After graduation, Ayush will pursue an advanced degree at the intersection of medicine, computer science and systems pharmacology with intent to use AI to design novel therapeutics for the world’s most pressing diseases.

Congratulations on receiving this prestigious award, Ayush!
