How has being a Chemistry graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"It has helped me to be an analytic thinker and to make professional connections."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Chemistry programs?

"I would give two different pieces of advice depending on how students intend to use their chemistry studies. For those that intend to use their chemistry degree or classes in their daily role (as a researcher, in graduate school, etc.), I would advise to get as immersed in the science as possible - get to know faculty, do research with them, and take advantage of everything. For those that don't know if they will use their chemistry classes that way, I would recommend that students reflect on how they are learning to think about problems and to analyze situations. Chemistry is helping to teach them a way of approaching problems systematically that can be used in a variety of fields and jobs."
