How has being a Chemistry graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"My chemistry degree gave me a strong basis for my career in medicine. After Duke, I earned a Master's in Public Health in Environmental and Occupational Health. I went on to medical school and residency, and have recently completed five years as Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at McLeod Regional Medical Center. I am also certified in Functional Medicine from the Institute for Functional Medicine, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. I am a clinical faculty member for several medical schools and the McLeod Family Medicine Residency Program. My Duke experience made me a lifelong learner, and I am currently working towards certification in Lifestyle Medicine."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Chemistry programs?

"The classes are tough, but worth the effort!"
