Mass Spectrometry

The Mass Spectrometry facility is located at 2323 FFSC.   A number of walk-up instruments are available for Duke researchers once they have completed training, and additional instruments are available for assisted operation with Facility staff.  The available instruments are:

Agilent LC/MSD Trap

  • Capabilities include ESI-MS using direct infusion or capillary HPLC
  • Open access after training, or assisted operation available
  • Usage fee of $21/hour

Bruker Autoflex Speed LRF MALDI-TOF System

  • Capabilities include both linear and reflectron detection
  • Open access after training, or assisted operation available
  • Usage fee of $20/hour

Shimadzu QP2010 GC/MS

  • Capabilities include GC with EI (low resolution)
  • Open access after training, or assisted operation available
  • Usage fee of $15/hour

Agilent 6224 LC/MS-TOF (High-Resolution)

  • Capabilities include ESI-MS using either flow injection or conventional HPLC
  • Agilent 1200 HPLC with a variety of HPLC columns and UV detection
  • Mass accuracy within +/- 3 ppm for mass confirmation and publication 
  • Operated by staff, or assissted operation available (experienced users)
  • Usage fee of $20/hour 

Agilent 6460 Triple Quadrupole LC-MS

  • Capabilities include LC-MS/MS (conventional flow, or nano-flow/nano-spray with Chip Cube interface)
  • Agilent 1260 with a variety of HPLC columns and UV detection
  • Operated by staff, or assisted operation available (experienced users)
  • Usage fee of $50/hour
